Additional Info:

The international version replaces the American flag in Buzz’s speech with a spinning CGI globe and the American Anthem is replaced with an exclusive piece by Randy Newman titled the ‘One World Anthem’. Bizarrely the 2005 UK DVD retains the US anthem while having the CGI globe.

The original November 1999 end credits start a second earlier on the theatrical versions (found on bootleg telesyncs) rather than the 2001 or 2005 DVDs.

Video Notes:

But their grade doesn't exceed 100 nits, it's just SDR.

https://slow.pics/c/F3u2viqj which is why those comps match near exactly. The 4K Blu-ray here has been clipped (i.e. all values above SDR range were thrown out), not tonemapped.

4K · Disappointing
Best Video:

2012 Criterion Blu-ray

Sources: Criterion Forum (opens in a new tab)

Video Notes:

2012 Criterion Blu-ray is the most accurate

4K Blu-ray unrecommended because of controversial colours, no HDR, minimal resolution uptick, and DNR master

Best Audio:

2002 Criterion DVD for original Dolby Digital 5.0 theatrical

Audio Notes:

The 4K Blu-ray 5.1 adds additional foley and effects.
