BestBlurays Submission Guidelines
- where we might discuss your submission.
- Use tags! Add "#" like #Blu-ray will generate tags like Blupray. We have tags for formats, regions, labels, and common terms like OOP or DNR. Tags also support aliases, for example, "#UHD" will be resolved to 4K Blu-ray
Please read through the tags page to get familiar with what tags are available. This will not only enforce terminology but also help users easily search and filter. - Attach links, use bullet points (`*` + space or `-`` + space), and numbered lists (number + space).
- We encourage you to expand on why you think something is best, link your sources, and explain your reasoning — for example, that one release has better grain structure or encoding, and that's why you recommend it. Linking release pages, forum threads, other blogs, websites, or even YouTube videos is encouraged, as long as they are relevant.
- Put the best release of that field at the top, then expand below. This makes it easier for others to know which one is better at a glance.
Format
- The format of the Best Video Release.
Best English-Friendly Release
- Best English-Friendly should be left as just the release, unless there are multiple versions. You can expand on the reasoning or caveats in Best Video/Audio.
- English-friendly requires English subtitles even when the movie is already in English.
- If there is no good English-friendly option, just leave it empty.
- If there are unknown releases from non-English-speaking regions — like Germany, France, Asia, Latin America, and more — it's okay to skip these if no comparisons are available.
Upcoming Releases
- Do not assume a new release by a reputable label is guaranteed to be better. We have the BFI AI releases, and even Arrow sometimes makes mistakes.
- You can put any new releases here, but don't change the rest until they're released.
- If it's not officially confirmed but only a rumor, please mention that it's a rumor and link to it.
Best Video
- Use screencaps and see for yourself. Don't just blindly trust reviewers, especially blu-ray.com official reviews. You can find screen captures on caps-a-holic, slow.pics, DVDBeaver, or some forum threads.
- Avoid Bootlegs if possible. Sometimes even Blu-ray.com might list some bootleg or gray area releases. You can find a list of potential bootleg labels from here https://brentonfilm.com/beware-of-pirates-how-to-avoid-bootleg-blu-rays-and-dvds-part-2
- If you cannot find any comparisons, educated guesses are okay, but give your reasoning and clearly mark them as such. Use words like "?", "possibly," "likely," or "probably." Otherwise, we might ask you to provide sources for your claims in Discord.
- The default assumption, while not perfect, goes from UHD Blu-ray > Blu-ray > HD streaming > DVD > SD streaming > unofficial sources. 4K streaming is tricky, and we ask you to use your best judgment.
- For fan restorations and unofficial scans, it's okay to list them, but we kindly ask you to put the best official releases at the top, explain why they are not ideal, then list out the best unofficial copies.
Best Audio
- If you don't know which release is the best, just leave it empty.
- While we prefer the original track over remixes, you can separate different remixes using bullet points and compare them separately.
- Starting from the DVD age, filtering is usually added, so the best audio is often found on LaserDiscs or even VHS.

Other FAQ
Q: When can I become an editor without needing to be reviewed? A: This is ultimately up to the admin's decision, but we will consider it once you have made enough approved contributions without any major edits by the editors.
Q: Why can't I edit a film that already has suggestions? A: It is technically difficult to implement, and not necessary at the current volume of suggestions. If you want to change something, feel free to mention it in Discord so that the editor can take it into consideration when reviewing your suggestions.
