Barry Sandrew, who patented digital colorization in 1987, founded Legend Films in San Diego in 2001 to restore and colorize black-and-white films for studios such as Fox, Sony, Universal and Paramount. It also sold its own DVDs and Blu-rays, often pairing original and colorized versions, and moved into 3D conversion as Legend3D.
