Some Like It Hot (1959)

Small role · Director: Billy Wilder

4K · Excellent
Best English-Friendly & Video:

Criterion 4K Blu-ray

Sources: Criterion Forum (opens in a new tab)

Video Notes:

Criterion 4K Blu-ray > Capelight/Kino Lorber which has heavy noise reduction and opening snare hit is missing, Capelight is slightly better encoded than Kino Lorber

Best Audio:

1992 MGM LaserDisc [ML102699]

Audio Notes:

But still a bit overly noise-managed.

1984 CBS/Fox Hi-Fi VHS maybe better?

Warner Bros Blu-ray 2-Disc version (Digibook) for the Smilebox presentation

Sources: YouTube (opens in a new tab)

Video Notes:

  • See what smilebox looks like for its smilebox trailer

  • See Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader's review especially why a smilebox version is preferred, for example how a letterboxd version is actually distorted

  • Even if you do not prefer the smilebox version, the letterboxd version is still present on disc 1
