American arthouse distributor that took the Wellspring name in 2001, when the film and video arm of the bankrupt Winstar (formerly Fox Lorber) was spun off. Its DVDs drew on a library of Truffaut, Godard, Rohmer, Fassbinder, Almodóvar and Antonioni titles, plus newer films such as Claire Denis's The Intruder. Genius Products bought it in 2005, and in 2006 the Weinstein-controlled venture closed Wellspring's theatrical unit.
