Video Notes:

> US Universal 4K Blu-ray

Universal 4K Blu-ray has these issues:

  • based on 88 Films' already good restoration,

  • BD-100, but 52GB was used

  • Too dark, wrong colors

Additional Info:

Universal Blu-ray has exclusive extras not on the 88 Films release

Small role · Directors: Benny Safdie & Josh Safdie

4K · Solid
Best English-Friendly & Video:

Criterion 4K Blu-ray

Sources: Criterion Forum (opens in a new tab)

Additional Info:

4K encode is low-pass filtered and noticeably so, which was unfortunately par for the course with Criterion 4Ks until sometime in 2024, and the encode is still less than ideal even despite that. Still better than the Criterion and Lionsgate Blu-Ray discs for the Dolby Vision grading alone.

Leading role · Director: Jamie Babbit

4K · Worse Than BD
Best English-Friendly & Video:

Lionsgate Blu-ray

Sources: slow.pics (opens in a new tab)

Video Notes:

Lionsgate 4K Blu-ray is a disaster. The compression on the base layer is horrid, and the oversized 18 Mbps FEL barely helps.

Best Audio:

Lionsgate 4K Blu-ray

Audio Notes:

Lionsgate 4K Blu-ray includes original matrixed Dolby Stereo mix, albeit lossy, and a 5.1 surround upmix. The stereo track on previous BD and DVD releases is also lossy and sounds about the same.

Supporting role · Director: David S. Goyer

Small role · Director: Keenen Ivory Wayans
